A Voice from the Community

I am Brandon Washington, a proud son of Orange Mound, a former foster youth, a college scholar, and an advocate who’s used every challenge life gave me as fuel to fight for others. My journey hasn’t been traditional, and that’s exactly why I am the kind of leader District 10 deserves.

From Challenge to Leadership

I was born and raised in Orange Mound—a neighborhood full of history, resilience, and soul. Like many families in our community, I faced hardship at an early age. At 15, I entered foster care without a roadmap, but I leaned on the strength of my neighborhood, my own drive, and the people who believed in me. That foundation didn’t just push me forward—it’s the same strength I plan to use to move District 10 ahead.

I graduated from the top high school in Memphis and earned a full-tuition Posse Scholarship to Rhodes College. Later, I transferred to the University of Memphis, where I’ve continued to lead with the lived experience that so many in our community share.

In 2023, I spoke at the U.S. Capitol, where I successfully fought to expand SNAP benefits for aged-out foster youth, veterans, and individuals experiencing homelessness. I also ran for Memphis City Council at just 19 years old—earning over 16,000 votes and becoming the first Black candidate and the youngest person to reach that level of support in my district.

In 2025, I helped pass a law right here in Tennessee to expand support for foster youth aging out of care, proving that even without a title, I’m already doing the work.

Why I Fight And

Why I’m Running

Too often, elected leaders say they’re “of the people” and “for the people,” but they’ve never actually lived the lives of those they claim to represent. They talk about our struggles like they’re statistics. I don’t have that luxury.

I know what it’s like to figure things out on your own. I know what it’s like to be counted out. And I know the power of being given a chance and using it to lift others up.

This campaign isn’t about politics. It’s about people.

It’s about the student trying to graduate. The young person navigating life without family. The parent working two jobs and still coming up short. The senior who deserves a neighborhood they can grow old in safely.

I’m running for County Commission because District 10 deserves a representative who sees you, not as a voter, but as a neighbor. Someone who will fight with you and for you, because I’ve walked in your shoes.

Together, we can bring opportunity, stability, and accountability to our community. Let’s build the future we deserve. One vote, one voice, one block at a time.
